Ice Age 3 was released in August 2009. It has been trailed since October 2008. This is a long time for a film that has always seemed likely to underwhelm. It doesn’t disappoint. But why did it take so long to reach the screen?
Well, it turns out that the makers were having some trouble with a character called Buck. This is a weasel who spends his days attempting bad Russell Brand impersonations. The problem is, as ever, the English accent. Clearly it’s impossible for anyone to understand, which is why it’s always better to get an American to do it. They make those vowels sound so much more… homegrown.
But wait. In this age of President Obama and equality, can’t a Brit be a Brit? No problem. There’s plenty of them lining up in LA. Even better, it’s an animation, so nobody will actually have to see the blighter. Or whatever they call themselves.
Hold up though. I think we’re all losing sight of what’s important here. There’s a recession on. We need to show our fellow Americans that we can still have some pride. Let’s get the guy to do it like an American would. That’s right, just like the entire ‘English’ cast of Frasier. Then maybe people would actually be able to understand him… Who’s up to the job?
Let’s get some unknown comic with plenty of good film credits in his home country. Someone with loads of credibility. Scrap that. Someone who had loads of credibility. Then get him to fake his own accent! Neaw that’ll be a larf!
