Independent Age – bring out your pages

March 16, 2009

Want to increase the number of ‘unique’ visitors to your site tenfold on a budget of… £0? It’s easily done. I achieved it at Independent Age, where my job was to manage the website with no money available. However, this didn’t deter me from improving what was already there. This included:

  • Structure review and page rewrite.
  • Bolder use photography throughout to add impact.
  • Improved navigation and tagging.
  • Testing with key audiences.
  • Social networking via Facebook, Twitter and their blog to promote events

The accessibility issues here were very important, not only because a lot of the charity’s work is with older people, but also because a lot of people who are helped by them are carers, a lot of whom are older too. Aside from that, I too prefer to deal with clear, succinctly-described information when I’m browsing around. A revamp can help enormously to give the appearance of a fresh approach. It takes time but it doesn’t have to cost anything.
